Chico Network software policy: what have changed recently?

On the past weeks, several players reported on online forums that they had received e-mails from Chico Network (TigerGaming, BetOnline, SportsBetting), alleging the use of prohibited software and asking them to uninstall it immediately. In this article, we update our players about the situation and draw a general conclusion.

Chico Network software policy: what have changed recently?

The Chico Network software policy

The Chico Network software policy isn't very explicit; it only mentions that "any software, artificial intelligence or tools giving an unfair advantage over other players" are prohibited, which is not only limited to bots. But, it does accept the usage of "tools that provide basic game statistics such as an odd calculator," which can be understood as a HUD acceptance policy.

Unfair advantage: Chico Network asks players to uninstall prohibited software

Several players reported that all poker rooms of the Chico Network sent e-mails about the use of "prohibited 3rd party software" which "provides unfair advantages over other players." The e-mails also stated that the network "doesn't allow the use of automated software applications," in an apparent reference to a popular subject nowadays: bots. Chico didn't disclose which software the e-mails were referring to, and a significant confusion started as players reported that they were only using Hold'em Manager or PokerTracker (HUDs).

Some days have passed, and again the users started to receive e-mails that give more information about the situation:

"As long as you do not make use of any BOT, AI, GTO, or Seating Script software, your account will have no issues with the Chico Network. Software like Hold'em Manager is allowed".

It's still unclear why players using only HUD received the e-mails; right now, we can suggest that new software to detect forbidden software was installed and some "false positives" appeared. But, along with bots (which are not allowed), the room also stated that seating scripts were also banned.

Which software was effectively banned on the Chico Network?

We can confirm that software like Chico Grinder Tool and UPTO (a software for multitabling) are not allowed at the moment. Therefore, we advise our players not to use them until further notice. Last year another US-friendly network, Winning, banned a software similar to Chico Grinder Tool, WPN Tools, but quickly the software developers dealt with the problem and updated the software according to the network restrictions. Hopefully, Chico Grinder Tool and UPTO get updated soon too.

About HUDs, as the network commented are accepted, and there is no reason to think that the policy may change in the future; even BetOnline has its own "Poker Odds Calculator," which enables a basic HUD at the tables.

Conclusion

With the "anti-bot" movement on fire, it's not shocking to see that almost all major networks (partypoker, PokerStars, WPN, Chico) began to straighten the conditions regarding support software. So far, seating scrips are banned from Chico Network, but in the future new restrictions may be enforced, and the players will have to adapt to the new scheme.
