Chico Poker under DDoS attack
Usually, hackers attack poker sites when they are operating at their maximum capacity; that is, Fridays and weekends. Unfortunately for the US-friendly site Chico, a DDoS attack followed the same path.
Around midday on October 16, 2020, many posts were shared on poker forums about the inability to log in to the clients of the rooms, and later the websites went offline. Then a message was shared explaining the situation:
Several messages were also shared via Twitter, where the management of the site addressed the situation and promised updates. According to our records, the network has been down for over 24 hours now.
This attack may not have been the first, as players on the 2+2 forum have been complaining about regular disconnections from the tables for the past two weeks.
What should the players do?
Such a situation, especially on weekends, causes tremendous discomfort to any player. After all, even after the servers are back online (at the time of writing this article, the network was still offline), there may be residual connection problems, and regular traffic will come back only after a few days.
The most reliable solution to keep playing while a site is not available is to have a spare poker room.
For Chico Poker players, these options can be:
- Winning Poker Network — leading US-friendly site;
- PokerBros — especially if you play PLO;
- Private room Kingsclubpkr — for those who play high stakes;
- Intertops and Nitrogen Sports — side rooms for low and mid-stakes.
