Phil Galfond Beats Daniel Cates
After the match with VeniVidi1993, the Galfond Challenge began to actively expand, either to get the attention of more fans or for some other reason. Phil decided to diversify the challenge and have several matches at the same time.
The fight against ActionFreak and Bill Perkins was complemented by another event: the Mini Galfond Challenge against Daniel "Jungleman" Cates, who, according to the original schedule, was supposed to be Phil's last opponent.
Galfond and Cates played 754 hands at two HU tables at €100/200€ in almost four hours. Jungleman was slightly ahead of the first hundred hands, but then lost the lead and eventually lost €86,870. However, for Daniel, the result wasn't so bad, because, at some points in the challenge, he lost more than 150 thousand euros.
Phil Galfond vs. Daniel "Jungleman" Cates highlights:
Galfond Challenge: Phil wins more than €500,000
Three and a half months of the challenge has given Galfond not only many new viewers and fans of his streams and, of course, players in the Run It Once Poker room, but also a profit of more than €500k.
In two unfinished matches, Galfond is ahead at the moment. Against Perkins, 1,013 hands have been played in almost a month, but it's unclear how long the match will last because it doesn't have a fixed schedule.
Against ActionFreak, even though Phil lost more than €160k in the last two sessions, Galfond is still ahead by €246,512, with 25% of the hands won. Of course, anything can happen because we have all witnessed the massive variance these games have.
