COVID-19 safety protocol
There were many discussions regarding mandatory vaccination, but now everything is final and confirmed: it is required before first registration for all participants. Players will have to provide official proof to pass registration for any WSOP event. Unfortunately, the negative COVID-19 test alone won't do.
This rule also has to be considered by those who hope to win a package via online satellites.
It would be excruciating to be unable to use this chance to play the most prestigious poker event because of not being vaccinated. According to the terms related to such packages, they usually can't be sold or exchanged for cash. The only exception is Winning Poker Network: full WSOP package value is paid in cash, so the winner has total freedom to decide what to do with it.
Regarding masks, the state of Nevada's current regulations requires all indoor public events participants to wear them. Who knows, maybe it would help someone to keep a proper poker face during the tournament.
After this news was published on the official WSOP Twitter, many people reacted in different ways. Several players did some maths and made a disappointing conclusion:
"Series starts in 33 days. Takes 6 weeks to be considered fully vaccinated with the two shot vaccines. Great timing on this announcement".
"We just lost so many fish."
From the other point of view, possibly this requirement will make some players who are still in doubt to finally get vaccinated:
"When professional gamblers are promoting mandatory vaccinations, maybe it's a clue you should get one yourself."
In the end, only time can show how many entrants will attend this time.
