Travel to Costa Rica to play at The Cage with the Winning Poker Network (WPN)
After a three years hiatus, The Cage Live is back in Costa Rica, sponsored by the Winning Poker Network (WPN). There will be four online and two live satellites in Costa Rica, guaranteeing more than 36 packages valued at $8,700. The event will be played in San Jose from August 16 to 19, 2023.
Satellites for The Cage Live
The Cage Live was, for several years, the flagship live event of the WPN network, but in 2020 it had to be abruptly stopped due to the pandemic. The American site remembers the success of this format and announced its return for 2023.
PokerKing, Americas Cardroom, and Black Chip Poker will guarantee at least 36 packages to travel to Costa Rica and play at The Cage Live to celebrate its return.
The online satellites will be played on the last three Sundays of July and August 1 at 18:05 ET. Each one costs $95 and guarantees nine packages:
- July 9
- July 16
- July 30
- August 6
Best of all, you can win entry to this satellite for free through the weekly leaderboard of The Beast race.
The package includes the following:
- Buy-in for The Cage: $5,250
- Travel expenses: $800
- Five nights' accommodation at the Sheraton Hotel (five stars) and transportation to and from the airport
- Money for expenses: $1,000
- Cash games money: $400
In addition, those in Costa Rica can play $440 live satellites on August 16th and 17th to win an additional buy-in for Day 1.
Packages for The Cage have no value, although they can be transferred to another player. The winnings from the event will be credited to the player's WPN account.
The Cage
The Cage format is a mix between tournaments and cash games, in which players cannot withdraw their winnings until the end of Day 2.
- On Day 1, players get 5,000 chips (they can rebuy for another $5,250)
- The blinds increase throughout the day, just like in a regular tournament
- The stacks of every day 1 are summed up for Day 2
- Day 2 is played like a tournament with three-hour levels
- At the end of Day 2, players exchange their chips for money at a 1:1rate
One of the main novelties lies in a Second Chance tournament in Mystery Bounty format for $660.
