Brand consolidation

The end of the history of one of the most famous poker brands was announced without any fireworks. Officially, the news was only enough to reach the FAQ section of PokerStars.

Several poker portals later confirmed the news. According to them, PokerStars took this step aiming to "optimize" its operation and brand consolidation.

When did FTP die?

Ray Bitar

Full Tilt Poker, created in 2004, quickly reached the title of "second world's largest room," thanks to its innovative software and creative team. And, despite lagging behind PokerStars in terms of traffic, FTP was able to overcome other indicators. For example, nosebleed games, new formats (fast-fold poker), and, of course, a unique client which even now will challenge anyone.

The turning point for Full Tilt Poker was "Black Friday" in 2011. The room's poor financial management by Ray Bitar (General Manager) and Gil Coronado (CFO)did not allow the room to survive those events. FTP was bought out of debt by PokerStars.

From 2012 to 2016, the new owners of Full Tilt Poker tried to revive the brand, but without success, and after switching to a shared pool and adopting PokerStars software, it worked in the shadows for several years.

Therefore, the announcement of the imminent closure, unfortunately, can be called the logical conclusion of this whole history.

What will happen to the client?

One more question that will torment all good old Full Tilt Poker fans after its closure: will it be even remotely possible to play in the old software again?

Given that PokerStars has switched to the Aurora engine and the bet in the future will be made on it, it's not worth counting on another resurrection of FTP, at least in the form of a poker client.

An interesting idea on this matter was recently shared on 2+2 by a user who introduced himself as a former Full Tilt Poker manager:

An option for the Full Tilt Poker client

Time will tell how much this conspiracy theory is justified. We can only hope for at least some kind of a rebirth of one of the best poker sites ever: Full Tilt Poker.
