GGPoker bans WSOP Online Super High Roller 2024 winner
The final table participants of the most expensive tournament of the WSOP 2024 reported that they received huge compensations from GGPoker. The largest room in the world banned the event winner, Italian Francesco “forzaitalia” Garofalo, and redistributed his winnings of more than a million dollars among the event participants.
Hundreds of thousands of dollars in compensations
The famous British player Patrick Leonard shared on November 4, 2024, on his account on the social network X (before Twitter) that GGPoker had credited $152,733 to his account due to violations of the room rules by another player:
“Wow, I just woke up and saw this. This is the biggest refund of my career. I have never received more than $2k before.”
While GGPoker's security team did not confirm who the banned player was, after Chris Brewer also reported receiving a large payout, everything became clear. GGPoker confiscated all of the winnings from Francesco “forzaitalia” Garofalo, the Italian who took first place in the WSOP Online $25k GGMillion$ Super High Roller Championship.
At the final table, many considered his presence at the tournament to be unusual.
Garofalo was most likely caught using improper software during play or perhaps receiving support from third-party players.
Approximate payouts for participants at the final table:
Player | Tournament payout | Compensation |
---|---|---|
Chris Brewer | $865,335 | $256,866 |
Bryn Kenney | $667,265 | $198,070 |
Patrick Leonard | $514,531 | $152,734 |
Dimitar Danchev | $396,758 | $117,773 |
Adrian Mateos | $305,942 | $90,816 |
Roman Hradec | $235,914 | $70,028 |
Ole Schemion | $181,914 | $54,000 |
Samuel Miller | $140,275 | $41,639 |
There has only been one other case of fund confiscation of this size in the history of online poker. It happened in 2007 when PokerStars took $1,378,331 from Natalie “TheV0id” Teltscher, whose account had won the WCOOP Main Event, accused of ghosting, something she later admitted.
