Spaniard Takes Home Record Omaha Tournament Cash
Spanish player Sergio Martínez took home the largest cash in live Omaha tournament history: $2,340,000 for winning the Triton Poker Series $100k PLO Main Event.
Record-Breaking Omaha Tournament
Triton Poker's first stop of 2025 in South Korea is breaking several records:
- Event #3, the highest-entered high roller tournament in history, grossing 391 $25,000 buy-ins.
- Event #16 awarded the winner the largest prize in PLO tournament history.
First place and $2,340,000 in the $100,000 PLO Triton Poker Super High Roller Series Jeju Main Event went to Spaniard Sergio Martínez González.
The Spaniard has only 12 ITMs in his career as a live player. In 2017, he finished first in a €550 event.
Martínez became famous in 2023 by being the runner-up in the $25,000 WSOP PLO High Roller, where he earned $1,418,270. The Spaniard is an engineer by profession and specializes in the aerospace industry.
Final Table
Martínez was the chip leader for most of the tournament and reached the final table with the largest stack of 106BB. In the top four, after eliminating Huang Wenjie and Tom Vogelsang, the Spaniard held nearly 70% of all chips in play.
The heads-up match was against China's Ding Biao, who managed to win some crucial pots from Martínez, taking a large amount of chips from him, as Ding was leading at the start of the final confrontation.
The last six pots of the tournament were crucial, and Martínez won them all. The final table pitted the Spaniard's K545 against the Chinese player's AKKJ.
Sergio's girlfriend cheered him on throughout the final table.
The good news for Spain didn't end with this tournament, as Lautaro Guerra managed to outlast 44 opponents and win $783,000 in the $30,000 PLO Bounty Quattro.
