TOP 5 questions to Alexandra from Daniel Negreanu

How to deal with the pain of losing in chess and poker?

The most challenging thing is to cope with the intensity of your emotions. This happens in chess. When you lose, you go to your room and don't talk to anyone. But in poker, the fluctuations were much lower. I sat down to play with my thoughts: I am objective, a chess player, and have no feelings. But when I lost, I went into tilt for a week.

So when I make a big mistake in poker or chess, I look at it this way: I won't repeat that mistake.

Which do you prefer to play: tournaments or cash?

I like tournaments more. They are closer to me because they are more like chess tournaments in duration, where you play for about 10 days for 6-7 hours, plus preliminary preparation. It turns out to be 10 hours of chess daily; it's a kind of marathon.

Have you ever won a poker tournament?

I won a $550 turbo tournament in the Bahamas, which was really cool. I was just playing for fun.

What is your biggest win?

It was probably the WSOP Main Event. I got $17,500, and it was a freeroll for me, so it was cool. But my craziest game was at cash tables, where I played against the pros.

What do you think about women's poker and chess tournaments?

I like them. It's from the point of view that you can make new friends there, and it's also nice to have women's evenings sometimes. Therefore, I have nothing against such tournaments.
