Argentinian manuma29 wins The Venom $10M GTD
On August 4, 2022, another The Venom tournament ended on the Winning Poker Network. The third time's the charm for WPN because they managed to cover the guarantee only on this edition. The event's winner played with an Argentina flag under the nickname "manuma29" for the first time, winning a $1,169,951 record prize.
Latin American victory
We can say a miracle happened in these summer days on the US-friendly network WPN. Without any noticeable changes in the satellites and the flight structure, its flagship tournament avoided the overlay for the first time after the guaranteed eight figures.
The second The Venom $10M GTD in 2022 collected a $10,042,500 prize pool, of which $1,169,951 went to Argentine "manuma29," who took down the first place.
Recall that a similar event in the 2022 winter overlaid for $545,000. Most likely, there was a hype around Venom that allowed WPN to claim 8th place in the PokerScout ranking.
As for "manuma29", he has been playing online tournaments for almost two years with an average buy-in of $334; after 277 MTT, he was in the red area by almost $24,000. He played The Venom before but couldn't advance beyond the initial ITM.
Final table
Also, for the first time in the history of The Venom, the final table was played in 7-max format. This happened because, when the game was in hand-for-hand mode on two tables, Brazilian Luigi "G26" Soncin knocked out two players with a flush.
Unlike the winter tournament, players didn't make any final table deal, taking over 4 hours to determine the winner.
The heads-up was classic Argentina vs. Brazil between "manuma29" and Soncin. The final hand was an all-in preflop facing A8 (Brazil) vs. AQ (Argentina). manuma29 made a royal flush on the turn.
Soncin earned $870,723 for second place.
What's next?
This year only The Venom PKO awaits us, and it will most likely get a five million dollars guarantee, but the same event in regular format will most likely take place in January-February 2023.
Suppose the next edition doesn't change the structure or shock the market with new promotions or satellites. In that case, the guarantee will likely be less than $10M.
We hope the event organizers can hold and even increase the guarantee, but for this, they will need to please players with new products.
