Austrian "pinguinachica" wins record-breaking The Venom PKO $5M GTD
On November 4, 2020, The Venom PKO $5M GTD hosted by Winning Poker Network ended. It collected $6,777,500 and became the largest tournament of this format in the history of online poker. First place was taken by a player from Austria — "pinguinachica" ($751,067, including a $273k bounty).
Winning Poker Network sets a PKO record
Recently, Winning Poker Network (Americas Cardroom, PokerKing, Black Chip Poker) has repeatedly faced great difficulties in implementing new products. The MoMoMo PKO $50M GTD, which was supposed to be a record-breaking series, had to be canceled due to massive overlays.
Nevertheless, the US-facing site decided to keep the main event, a unique edition of The Venom in a progressive knockout format with a $5M guaranteed prize pool. Many satellites were played like The Venom Fever, which gave away 300 tickets.
After four starting flights, the event collected the following number of entries:
- Day 1A - 297.
- Day 1B - 730.
- Day 1C - 499.
- Day 1D - 1.185.
The Venom PKO $5M GTD had 2,711 entries and a $6,777,500 prize pool, making it the largest PKO event in online poker history.
Final table: America vs. Austria
Three Austrian grinders made their way to the final table of the tournament.
One of the Europeans, "Crusher1991", became the first poker player in the The Venom history who to make it to two final tables.
Recall that there were already four editions, and the Austrian took 5th place in the second one.
Final table payouts:
- "CheekySleek"(USA) — $414,153.65.
- "ULoveToDonk"(USA) — $248,740.29.
- "grrp" (Austria) — $164,959.53.
- "CoramDeo"(USA) — $139,705.85.
- "Xazel303"(USA) — $100,314.45.
- Patrick "BorisRU1974"Tardiff (Canada) — $72,325.54.
Heads-up started after the players reached a deal in which prizes were divided almost equally and ended a few hands later.
The winner of The Venom PKO $5M GTD was the Austrian player "pinguinachica." He won including th bounties $751,067. His compatriot, "Crusher1991," got $570,401 for second place.
The person who never makes a mistake will never make anything
Winning Poker Network has rolled out several updates over the past year and a half:
- Launched a new client.
- Added Bomb Pots.
- Held 4 The Venom tournaments with $5M GTD.
- Made a public roadmap.
- Changed the structure of The Beast rake race.
And recently, they proposed "wild cards" as a solution for RTA.
Not all of these initiatives were enthusiastically accepted by players, but their continued work allows the network to remain in the TOP10 and is the largest US-friendly site.
The Venom PKO $5M GTD proved that even an unsuccessful initiative like MoMomo PKO can lead to significant achievement. A new Venom has already been added to the network's roadmap, and its details are yet to be confirmed.
