Inaugural GG Online Championship 2022 Set to Launch May 5
GGPoker, the world’s leading online poker room, made a major announcement yesterday.
They are launching a brand new, massive online tournament series called GG Online Championship. It kicks off Thursday, May 5, 2022, and is set to run through May 31. The very first event on their schedule is the $525 Bounty Hunters HR No-Limit Hold’em tournament, starting at 4:30 PM GMT tomorrow.
GG wants their players with bankrolls of all sizes to take part in their new exciting endeavor. Therefore, they are running events in four different buy-in tiers. The players can compete in:
- Low ($5-$24.99)
- Medium ($25-$499.99)
- High ($500-$2,499)
- Super high ($2,500+)
Out of the hundreds of events on the schedule, over 40 of them have guaranteed prize pools of $1 million or more. These include the $1,500 GGOC Main Event with $8 million GTD (final day on May 29) and the $10,300 buy-in Super MILLION$ Main Event with $10 million GTD (Day 1’s start on May 15).
Poker legend and GGPoker ambassador Daniel Negreanu had this to say about the new online series:
“It’s great to be able to introduce a brand-new tournament series that all GGPoker players can enjoy, and the GG Online Championship is the biggest and best series ever. We’re doubling the guarantees seen elsewhere; players will be leaving a lot of value behind them if they don’t take full advantage at GGPoker this month!”

$500K Leaderboard for the GG Players
The biggest online poker room also decided to spice up the competition for their new tourney series with 3 leaderboards. The prizes to be won on these boards total $500,000. $250,000 will be given out to the top finishers on the high tier leaderboard, $150,000 in the middle tier, and $100,000 in the low tier. Points will be awarded using the following formula:
Leaderboard Point = Log (Prize Pool) / Sqrt (*Relative Rank)
*Relative Rank = Finish Position / Number of Entrants
Since the high stakes events of the series are bound to attract some of poker’s biggest names, GG will be broadcasting 3 events live on their official YouTube channel. These events are:
- $2.5 million GTD Super MILLION$ High Rollers on May 10
- $10 million GTD Super MILLION$ HR Main Event on May 24
- $6 million GTD Super MILLION$ HR Championship on May 31st.
GGPoker has proven to be able to deliver when it comes to major online tournament series in the past. They hosted the international leg of the World Series of Poker Online in 2020 and 2021 when the dreaded coronavirus pandemic prohibited the live WSOP from taking place in the summer in Las Vegas.
In fact, they still hold the world record for the most money given out in prizes in an online poker tournament. In August 2020, the $5,000 WSOP Online Main Event had a prize pool of a whopping $27.5 million. Alas, there will be no WSOP Online on GG this year. However, the new GG Online Championship is sure to provide ample enough action for online tourney players.
