Moritz Dietrich wins WSOP Online 2024 Main Event

New WSOP and GGPoker record

The July World Series of Poker Main Event in Las Vegas broke attendance records, with more than 10,000 players.

The online version played at GGPoker in September also became the largest ever.

The 2024 WSOP Online Main Event had 6,146 entries and a prize pool of $29,193,500. First place went to Austrian pro Moritz Dietrich, who earned $4,021,012.

Interestingly, the $25M guarantee was only broken in the penultimate flight, and the final starting day of the tournament added another $3.5M to the prize pool.

Moritz Dietrich started playing poker in 2009, losing the first $10 he received as a Christmas present from his brother. In the following years, the Austrian managed to reach mid-limit online MTTs.

A turning point in his career was meeting Doug Polk in 2014. His coaching helped Moritz successfully play more expensive tournaments.

Final table

Dietrich was joined by several players who started their careers in the 2000s, including Ilya "Leqenden" Anatski and Benjamin "bencb789" Rolle.

The start of the final table was positive for the only American at the table. First, Isaac "westmenloAA" Baron doubled up against the leader Akimov: KJ vs. AK, and then he eliminated two other opponents:

1. Audrius Stakelis. QQ-AK.
2. Benjamin Rolle. 99-AQ.

In the TOP 5, the star was Akimov. He was the chip leader at the time, and with very aggressive play, he knocked out two players with a unique hand: 64 all-in preflop:

1. Diogo Coelho with AK. The Russian hit a flush on the river with just one card
2. Isaac Baron with KK. This time, Evgenii made a straight

Akimov reached the heads-up with more chips than the Austrian, with a 6:1 difference. However, Dietrich doubled up with 55 against AK and then won a big pot QT vs. KJ when he made a straight against two pairs.

Dietrich's final hand against Evgenii, who only had 6bbs, was 82 vs. 95. The board got an eight.
