The youngest licensed poker room in the US, BetRivers Poker, was able to expand its pool to 4 states in one day, giving access to tables to residents of West Virginia, Michigan, and Delaware. Now the site has every chance to become a leader in the legal market of the country.

A big leap forward for Phil Galfond's poker room

An event of significance on the US online poker market has occurred, equal in importance to the Multi-State Internet Gaming Agreement (MSIGA), which allows licensed poker rooms to combine pools from different states.

On June 10, 2025, BetRivers Poker simultaneously launched operations in three more states: West Virginia, Michigan, and Delaware with shared liquidity.

A reminder that the poker room opened on October 31, 2024, and initially only accepted players from Pennsylvania. That is, Phil Galfond's poker room was able to do in seven months what its competitors have been unable to achieve for many years.

Now, only WSOP.com (from Caesars) can boast a shared pool for four states (Nevada, New Jersey, Michigan, Pennsylvania). At the same time, a representative of BetRivers Poker said that this year the site plans to attract players from New Jersey to its tables.

Two other competitors of the poker room have pools only for two (PokerStars in New Jersey and Michigan) and three states (BetMGM Poker in Michigan, New Jersey and Pennsylvania).

What makes BetRivers Poker unique and explosive is the fact that the poker room will have a monopoly in West Virginia and Delaware.

In the coming months, with a more modern application than its competitors and a single pool in four states, BetRivers Poker has every chance of becoming the largest licensed poker room in the United States.

Implications for the industry

For players, especially from West Virginia and Delaware, the emergence of new large liquidity in US online poker is a definite plus.

In addition, the active expansion of BetRivers Poker should force competitors to take new steps to increase their attractiveness. In addition to the banal expansion of the range of promotions and formats:

  • PokerStars may finally add Pennsylvania to the general pool of New Jersey and Michigan.
  • WSOP.com - switch to more modern software from NSUS (owner of GGPoker)
  • Some of the poker rooms will try to get a license in new states.

The launch of BetRivers Poker confirms that the online poker industry in the US continues to revive. The participation of Phil Galfond, increased competition and the expansion of common player pools for several states can lead to a new wave of interest in poker - both from professionals and mass players.
