GGPoker extends a new olive branch to banned players
The world’s leading poker site shared the latest developments about their new initiative on their very own subreddit.
GG Sets Up Poker Integrity Council Against Cheaters
Back in July, in the midst of the ongoing World Series of Poker, we reported on GGPoker establishing a Poker Integrity Council. They decided to do so in the wake of a couple of cheating scandals that involved such big figures in the poker world as Bryn Kenney or Ali Imsirovic.
We also learnt that some of the most trusted names in poker, such as Jason Koon or Fedor Holz, will be on this new council.
However, thanks to a Reddit post GGPoker made on their own subreddit, we got to know more about this welcome initiative. This one involves a path for redemption for those who got caught cheating.
“Olive Branch” Path Proposed by GGPoker
In their announcement, the good people at the GGNetwork declare that they believe in second chances. If a banned player has already spent considerable time away from the tables, they now have an opportunity to ask for reinstatement which will be judged on a case-by-case basis.
They need to send their reinstatement application to the email address [email protected]. The email must include the subject line “Olive Branch Application”. Also, the player’s GGNetwork screen name(s), their full name, date and reason for the ban, and proof of identity must be included in order to be considered.
As GG, the world’s leading online poker site, put it in their Reddit post:
“The PIC marks the first industry-wide initiative of its kind with sweeping consequences for cheaters.
Conversely, we believe that those who have spent time away from the tables, for game integrity reasons, should eventually be allowed to start over with a clean slate, apart from the most severe cases. As such, we would like to extend an 'Olive Branch' to previously banned high-stakes cash game and tournament players on GGPoker Network through Aug 22, 2022.”
So, as you can tell, this reinstatement policy lasts till August 22th, two weeks from now.
Let's recall this is not the first time GGPoker has extended an olive branch to banned players. After a controversy, in 2020, they made almost the same offer and explained to the community what kind of poker players they wanted at the tables.
While the poker site does not comment on individual cases of player bans, there have been some high-profile poker pros who are reasonably suspected to have been barred from playing on GG. These include the aforementioned Ali Imisrovic, as well as Jake Schindler. They both have put in considerable volume in GGPoker’s high stakes cash tables, winning big sums of money, then suddenly stopped playing. Later, allegations of cheating, namely using real-time assistance, came out about them.
Now they too have a chance at redemption.
However, based on the comments under the post, not everyone in the online poker community is happy about this decision. Some feel cheaters should not be allowed back at the tables, for fear of their reoffending.
GGPoker did clarify that the most severe offenders have no chance of getting back on their site. Hopefully, their players can trust their judgment so they keep their games clean and keep sufficient action flowing at the highest stakes games at the same time.
