Former history and English teacher Harald Sammer made an impressive comeback at the WSOP Circuit Cyprus. After making it through the final table with the minimum stack, he defeated the heads-up favorite to become a millionaire, earning the first major title of his career.

Harald Sammer Claims 1 Million in Wsop Super Circuit Cyprus Main Event

Schoolteacher — First

The WWSOP Circuit came to Cyprus for the first time. The series schedule includes 15 events. The $5,300 Main Event attracted 1,372 entries and $6,860,000 totalling prize money.

Harald Sammer became the WSOP Circuit Main Event champion on October 21, 2025, earning $1,000,000 sharp.

For the 36-year-old German, this isn't just a major win — it's a story of patience and comeback. Harald has broken his personal best by almost tenfold: his previous best result was 8th place in the $1,500 bracelet event at the 2018 WSOP, where he won $118,802. That time, Harald lost a flip AK against QQ and fell just short of the final table.

Since then, Sammer has only occasionally appeared in the money. In 2022, he notched a 7th place in the $2,100 Mystery Bounty ($105K) and won the APL Winter Championship ($80K) on GGPoker. Now, he's earned his first major live title and a seven-figure score.

Sammer's story is no less touching than his victory. For the past three years, the former high school history and English teacher has been saving every euro, raising funds for the treatment of his girlfriend, who suffers from myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME/CFS).

Winning the WSOPC Cyprus wasn't just a poker triumph, but a chance for a new life for both of them.

Final Table: 14 Blinds to a Million

The final day's play began with the Top 7 stage. Sammer started with 14 blinds, while Daniel Rezaei had amassed 135 blinds worth of chips - an almost ten-to-one advantage.

Daniel capitalized on his advantage and played very aggressively. Before the heads-up, he eliminated four more opponents:

  1. Radoslav Stoyanov: preflop all-in 9♠9♣ — J♣J♣
  2. Konstantin Voronin: A♦K♣ — K♥Q♣
  3. Al-Kubasi: Q♦5♦ — J♥7♥
  4. Bernardo Neves: A♦K♠ against pocket nines

The heads-up game began with Rezaei having a chip lead of about 7 to 1.

However, Sammer then turned the tables in just half an hour. One of the key moments: Rezaei went all-in with A♣2♣ against Sammer's Q♣9♥ and lost.

Final hand:

  • Harald with Q♠Q♦ against Daniel's A♣K♥.
  • Board: Q♥‑10♣‑6♣‑9♥‑2♥.

Sammer flopped a set of queens, leaving his opponent with only four outs, none of which hit.
