Scandinavian power

The third World Series of Poker Online — Global Edition held by GGPoker has already ended. By tradition, the last tournament was the Main Event and rewarded 33 bracelets. Once again, the champion was a European grinder:

Swedish poker pro Simon "C.Darwin2" Mattsson won the Main Event of the WSOP Online 2022, taking home the bracelet and $2,793,575.

Although the ME was far from the record figures set two years ago, this year it was bigger than the 2021 edition: it avoided the overlay, gathering 4,984 entries and a $23,674,000 prize pool.

Let's recall that this year the WSOP Main Event in Las Vegas was won by another Scandinavian — Norwegian Espen Jorstad.

Final table

In the top 9, four players didn't have a massive background, but the two largest stacks were from famous Scandinavian regs. As a result, the players left the final table as follows:

  • Oliver "SprasesAces" Sprason (United Kingdom, 8th place, $372,530)
  • Jordan "Felix Argyle" Spurlin (USA, 7th place, $496,774)
  • Yanfei "aoteman1888" Chi (China, 6th place, $662,460)

Heads-up

Mattsson faced the Thai high roller Kannapong "Sakooh" Thanarattrakul ($2,094,884) for over half an hour. Despite the action in almost every pot, the chip ratio remained the same for a long time. Simon had more chips only after twenty minutes of the HU game.

About the winner

The nickname "C.Darwin2" is worldwide famous. Since mid-February 2016, the player has been fighting for first place in the PocketFives rankings for his winnings in online tournaments.

Simon's main competitor is his compatriot Niklas "lena900" Astedt. Until today, the difference between them was less than $500,000, and Mattsson greatly increased this gap.

Curiously, the Swede made his first ever seven-figure payout ($1,116,112) only 5 months ago, after winning the $10,000 MILLION$ H.
