Phil Ivey Announced as New WPT Ambassador

Phil Ivey is an undisputed legend of the game of poker.

He has won the most money on online cash games ever recorded. His profits from the nosebleed stakes Full Tilt tables total a staggering $19.243 million. He also has won 10 World Series of Poker gold bracelets. That puts him second on the all-time list, tied with Doyle Brunson and Johnny Chan with also 10, but far behind Phil Hellmuth’s 16.

Ivey was also a staple on classic poker TV shows such as Poker After Dark on NBC and High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network. On top of all that, he has $34.626 million in live tournament cashes. With that sum, he’s in the top 10 on Hendon’s famous all-time money list.

And now he has another thing to add to his already impressive resume: Phil Ivey is now a World Poker Tour ambassador.

He’s in good company. Other WPT brand ambassadors include the legend Doyle Brunson, American DJ Steve Aoki, actor and director Vincent Van Patten, and poker hostess Lynn Gilmartin. Brad Owen, the most popular poker vlogger on YouTube by far, is also on the roster for the famous poker brand.

Also, Ivey has quite a connection to the World Poker Tour. On top of his two WPT titles, he final tabled a total of 9 more of their events during his career. In June 2021, he won a $25,000 online WPT heads-up tournament for $400,000. Previously, he was a sponsored pro for the now-defunct poker site Full Tilt.

What to Know About the World Poker Tour

The WPT was founded back in 2002. Over the years, it built up a solid reputation as the second most prestigious poker tournament series, behind the World Series of Poker. However, while WSOP bracelet events are only held for a couple months a year (usually in Las Vegas in the summer and in Europe in the fall), the WPT is hosting tournaments around the world year-round.

With all that great experience, WPT has recently decided to take on a new endeavor. In April 2022, they launched WPT Global. It’s a fresh new online poker platform available in 85+ countries.
