Team Pro: the race for having the most popular ambassadors
Online poker rooms are recruiting popular poker players to increase their brand power ★ partypoker, PokerStars, GG, Spartan Poker, and others have a team of poker professionals ★ Contact us now to get the best rakeback deals on the market
Besides being top-poker players, Daniel Negreanu, Chris Moneymaker, Isaac Haxton, Sam Trickett, David Benyamine, all have something in common: they all belong to a team of poker professionals sponsored by online poker rooms
The race to be the most recognized online poker room in the world involves lots of additional factors besides traffic (in terms of traffic, all rooms are far away from PokerStars): having the best rakeback program, the best software, and the best team of professionals.
Why a team of poker professionals?
Over the years, some poker players have made tremendous fame (what poker fan hasn't heard of Daniel Negreanu for example?) and online poker rooms decided to recruit the most popular ones to promote their brands. Usually, sponsored players wear clothing with the poker room logo and participate in events on behalf of the room. The strategy has proven its success as lots of poker enthusiasts reach the sites looking for sharing a table with the best players.
Team PokerStars Pro
Maybe the first room to make popular a team of professionals was PokerStars: Daniel Negreanu is perhaps the most popular member, and in total 18 players currently integrate the PokerStars Team Pro. Chris Moneymaker, the 2003 WSOP Main Event champion also belongs to the PS Team Pro. In the past, PokerStars even signed soccer stars like Neymar Jr.
PokerStars also uses the "team pro" strategy to introduce its brand on new markets, therefore an Indian (Aditya Agarwal, Muskan Sethi), Brazilian or USA team pro promote the brand. The Spanish player Ramón Colillas is the last addition to the PS Team Pro after winning the $25 Poker Players Championship for over $5MUSD.
Team partypoker
Recently the team partypoker captured the headlines due to the creation of the "Team Online" with some of the most popular Twitch streamers like Matt Staples. The team is divided into three categories:
- Player Panel
A selected group of the best poker pros working with partypoker. Big names like Mike Sexton (officially the partypoker chairman and member of Poker Hall of Fame), Isaac Haxton, Fedor Holz, Sam Trickett or Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier among others integrate the Player Panel.
- Brand Ambassadors & Sponsored Pros
Professional players from all over the world are the partypoker strategy for introducing its brand to new markets. Luiza Simao (Brazil), Ludovic Geilich (Scotland), Anatoly Filatov (Russia) and even Carl Froch (England, a former Fighter of the Year) integrate the group of Brand Ambassadors composed by 16 players.
- Team Online (new)
Recently established with some Twitch superstars, the Team Online aims to take advantage of the new era of poker streamers, and as for today, it has recruited the Australian player Hristivoje "ALLinPav" Pavlovic, Travis Darroch, Matt Staples, Patrick Tardif, Alan "Hotted" Widmann (which was recruited by partypoker from Unibet), Ryan Schoonbaert, and Courtney Gee.
Unibet Open ambassadors
The Unibet Open Ambassadors is a group of poker pros devoted to promoting the Unibet main live poker series: the Unibet Open, which has confirmed stops this year in London (May 23rd — 26th) and Malta (September 11th — 15th).
Unibet raised its own bar in 2019 having 10 Unibet Open ambassadors. Perhaps Alexandre Reard and his $1,6MUSD in poker profits is the most popular player of the team, which is also composed by Dan "Agentu" Murariu, Dara O'Kearney, Ian Simpson, among others.
GGPoker ambassadors
In the beginning, GG focused mainly on the Asian market, but last year the room decided to go for European traffic, and besides improving their games offer, the network recruited a group of 22 poker professionals (so far), including the world-famous Jennifer Harman (with two golden bracelets in his career history), David Benyamine (popular at the Full Tilt Poker mega high-stakes tables years ago), and Todd Brunson (the son of the live-legend Doyle Brunson). But GG doesn't forget its roots and Asian players like Jin Yong, Jianxi Fu or Mike Huang are part of its team.
The Spartan Aces
One of the largest Indian poker rooms, Spartan Poker, had followed the strategy of having a team of poker pros: The Spartan Aces is composed by three popular Indian poker players, Mahi Shell, Abhishek Jalan, and Amrita Sethi. The Indian online poker market is booming right now, and soon Spartan and other Indian rooms will start recruiting popular players to promote their rooms. Even other sites like Adda52 started to recruit famous cricket players like Chris Gayle to promote its brand.
Conclusion
The strategy of having a group of ambassadors has proven to be very successful for online poker rooms. Even some sites have featured tables on their platform, and the action besides being great is regular (it is easily common to see Sam Trickett playing PLO $200/$400 at partypoker).
