Wiktor Malinowski won the most expensive tournament of the Triton Poker Series
On May 24th, Wiktor Malinowski beat 60 players in the $212,000 Triton Poker Series tournament in Montenegro. After beating Spaniard Adrian Mateos in the final heads-up, the famous high-roller won the biggest prize of his career: $4,789,000.
First win at the Triton Poker Series
The $212k Triton Poker Super High Roller Series buy-in tournament in Montenegro ended on May 24th. Wiktor Malinowski took the title and a prize of $4,789,000 after surpassing the Spaniard Adrian Mateos in the final definition.
Wiktor is better known by his nickname "Limitless" and for frequenting the high-roller cash games.
Wiktor does not usually participate in tournaments, especially live ones, and when he does, he limits himself to the highest buy-in ones.
Before this victory, he had cashed out seven times in Triton Poker events with a record payout of $1,210,000 (third position in the 2022 Main Event).
Final Table
The most expensive tournament of the Triton Poker Series of Montenegro summoned 61 players, most of them world-class high-rollers. Wiktor managed to reach the final table as the chip leader.
His rivals dropped out of the competition like this:
9th place: Matas Cimbolas (Lithuania), $483,000
The Lithuanian has only started playing Triton Poker tournaments this year and has already cashed twice.
Matias has a lot of live experience; since 2013, he has cashed in 152 tournaments. He arrived with few chips at the final table and was eliminated in a preflop all-in by Michael Watson's KQ.
8th place: Nick Petrangelo (USA), $661,000
The experienced American has cashed three times in this series and achieved his first title in the $52k Turbo event, earning $775,000. He arrived with a stack of 13BB to the final table and faced his AT against Malinowski's A7, who hit the seven on the flop.
7th place: Jonathan Jaffe (USA), $865,000
Jonathan started playing at Triton Poker in 2022 after being invited by Petrangelo. Jaffe accumulates ten prizes and a title at the Monte Carlo stop two years later.
The American fell to Cimbolas when KQ overtook his AQ. Adrian Mateos connected a king on the flop.
6th place: Jason Koon (USA), $1,098,000
The last representative of the United States and holder of the record of titles in Triton (ten trophies) could not improve his stack of 13BB in more than an hour of play. Malinowski's AJ overtook Koon's A5.
5th place: Mikita Badziakouski (Belarus), $1,405,000
The Belarusian had already achieved three small payouts in this edition of Triton Poker. Mikita pitted her A7 against the pair of Mateos queens.
4th place: Michael Watson (Canada), $1,748,000
The Canadian started playing in the WSOP and Triton Poker last year. In Montenegro he won his first title for $31.8k.
Michael managed to increase his stack at the final table but gave almost all his chips to Malinowski. He was eliminated by Adrian Mateos, who connected his J5 against Michael's K7.
3rd place: Steve O'Dwyer (Ireland), $2,157,000
Steve has been playing at Triton since 2017. He has two titles and more than 20 prizes. He lost to Malinowski's A3, securing the best payout of his career.
Heads-up
Malinowski and Mateos were responsible for almost all the eliminations of the final table, although Wiktor started the heads-up with a difference of 3:1.
In just 20 minutes, the Spaniard managed to reduce the difference, including a bluff that was left for history:
Mateos paid the big blind preflop with K2, and Wiktor checked with J9. The flop was J49 giving two pairs to Wiktor, who passed, while Mateos decided to bet 250,000 (blinds 125k/250k). Wiktor only paid with his two pairs. The turn was a 3, Malinowski passed again, and Mateos attacked with an overbet of 1,900,000.
The river brought a 7, and Mateos was all-in after Wiktor passed again. After thinking about it briefly, Malinowski folded the best hand.
Wiktor recovered his chips and after several comings and goings and after an hour and a half of play came the final hand on a board 8437 in which the 83 of Wiktor beat the 86 of Mateos.
Adrián Mateos collected $3,292,000 for his second position, affirming himself as the best poker player in Spain and entering the TOP10 of players with the most winnings in all history, surpassing Erik Seidel.
