Partypoker will create an NFT collection

On January 31, 2022, Entain Holdings and its partypoker division simultaneously announced the start of a new blockchain-related chapter in their history. The poker room will create an NFT collection, while its parent company will establish the Ennovate innovation center, which will develop similar gaming products, including those for the Metaverses and VR.

Partypoker and tokens

The non-fungible tokens (NFTs) appeared in the poker industry less than a year ago when WPT used them to draw attention to the live streaming of high roller cash games. A series of unique game videos and collectible cards were created in NFT format.

Regarding online poker, the tokens have been used only in obscure projects like Virtue Poker and ICE Poker so far. But yesterday, it became known that one of the top poker sites also decided to give them a try:

On January 31, 2022, partypoker announced the launch of poker NFTs, developed in partnership with Theta Labs*.

*Theta Labs is a company developing blockchain projects, the main of which is the decentralized video delivery network of the same name. WPT also cooperates with them.

A specific date when these tokens become available to players has not been announced yet. In general, the following is currently known about them:

The NFTs will feature some of the most iconic moments and tournament hands in partypoker and partypoker LIVE history.
Some will be released in PokerApes format (a series of unique high definition 3D images).
It is planned to create two trading platforms for the primary sale and resale of NFTs.

According to Vadim Soloveychik, one of the poker room directors, partypoker decided to use such tokens to "provide players with the opportunity to become owners of a part of the poker history."

What is Ennovate?

On the same day, Entain Holdings published big news on their official website about launching an even more extensive and ambitious project.

In the spring of 2022, the first laboratory of the Ennovate center should start operating in London. It will be the first stage of a £100 million investment project, bringing modern digital technologies to the gambling industry.

In addition to NFTs, Ennovate will work on establishing the Entain Metaverse and the development of VR systems. In this regard, Entain CEO Jette Nygaard-Andersen made a statement about the company's goal to become "the world leader in the field of innovative entertainment."

Will blockchain help partypoker?

So far, the initiative of the poker room looks like an attempt to create a new type of NFT-related player community. Considering the current situation, the appearance of a poker Metaverse on its base is a very distant prospect.

For a year already, partypoker has been implementing direct crypto transactions. After all, it should make the poker room more attractive and player-friendly.

The blockchain projects of Rob Yong's team are more likely a tribute to modern trends and a desire to be the first among competitors in this field than a real opportunity to fundamentally change the game principles at partypoker soon.
