Phil Ivey Promotes WPT Global as Customer Support Rep

WPT Global, the real money social poker app, is the World Poker Tour’s latest project.

To really establish themselves among poker fans, however, the trusted WPT brand isn’t enough. They decided to do something crazy: host a $1 buy-in tournament with a $1 million guarantee!

This idea is so crazy that they had to bring in 10-time WSOP gold bracelet winner Phil Ivey to explain it.

In a short video Ivey himself posted to his Twitter feed, the poker legend is shown as a customer service rep for WPT Global. He keeps getting “strange” phone calls about the $1 guarantee in a $1 NLHE tourney. Nor Ivey, nor his colleague next to him seems to believe that anyone would do such a thing. But in the end, a supervisor comes in and clarifies the issue - this is in fact happening!

What's more, you too can take part in the event if you sign up to WPT Global now.

The first Day1 of the event started on July 20th. However, don’t worry, you haven’t missed out on anything. You can still register for plenty of first flights until August 17th. Day2 will be held on Sunday, August 21st. Day3 will be streamed live on Twitch on August 22nd.

You can even enter multiple Day1’s, even if you don’t bust. You’ll just carry your biggest stack to Day2.

The good people at WPT Global are not expecting to hit the guarantee - they’re quite aware that this event will end in a massive overlay. Their General Manager, Alex Scott, estimates it’s going to cost them over $900,000. It’s up to you, the player, to pick up that value.

WPT GM Alex Scott is tweeting about the expected overlay.

Ivey didn’t have the most successful World Series this year. However, it wasn’t that bad so he’d have to pick up a day job as a WPT Global customer service rep - the short Twitter video was evidently just a gag. Ivey even took second place in the $100,000 No Limit Hold’em High Roller at the WSOP this summer for $1.173 million.

Also, Ivey has quite a bit of connection to the World Poker Tour. On top of his two live WPT titles, he won a $25,000 online WPT heads-up tournament for $400,000 in June 2021 as well.
