PokerStars Managing Director Severin Rasset on online poker
Severin Rasset, Managing Director at PokerStars, was recently interviewed by PokerScout. He spoke about his vision for the future of online poker and what is the PokerStars' approach to it.
New game environment
The online poker industry is continually evolving, and we have all felt these changes this year. In such an environment, poker rooms must create a new gaming scenario to attract and retain players, Rasset said.
In it, he identified two main components:
- Tournaments
- Unique content and events.
About MTTs, Severin said that ongoing tournaments should be analyzed to identify players' needs and adapt the schedule every week. He also said the millionaire guaranteed prize pools won't last long.
An example of such content is the new spin&go format Grand Tour.
Building a sense of community
PokerStars is also trying to build a community of players to avoid the idea that poker is an isolated game. In other words, the site is not interested in pure grinders:
This approach is familiar to many poker rooms:
- partypoker launched Club Games;
- 888Poker developed Play with friends;
- Several sites like Chico, WPN, Unibet gave players the opportunity to create private tournaments and cash tables.
Other community-building opportunities like streaming platforms, YouTube, and social networks, are not overlooked.
Entertainment as the future of online poker
Casual players are crucial to online poker. According to Rasset, attracting them and making poker more fun will lead to a sustainable environment.
"To me, the future of online poker is all about entertainment and a great player experience, regardless of playing preferences."
PokerStars competitors have taken a similar approach, among which we highlight GGNetwork, Unibet Poker, or 888 Poker, all of which have held such policies for a long time.
The priorities include:
- Develop a friendly gaming client;
- Unique promotions;
- Top-notch customer service;
- Fair-gaming.
Perspectives
PokerStars' position in late 2020 is hardly optimistic. Although the site remains the largest online poker room globally, and for many fans, there are no alternatives to PokerStars. Sites like GGPoker are currently trying their leadership, and sooner or later a new era will begin.
Severin Rasset outlined how the poker site will struggle with its competitors and, in terms of prospects, he said that online poker will remain an exciting game in the following years.
Only time will tell how things work out for PokerStars, but we highlight that players can currently benefit from the current fight between Stars and their competitors.
