Xuan Liu: First Woman to Win a Triton Poker Tournament
For the first time in its nine-year history, a woman lifted a trophy at Triton Poker. It happened in Montenegro, where Canadian Xuan Liu won the Triton Poker WPT Global Slam, cashing in at $860,000.
First Woman
The Montenegro stop of the Triton Poker Super High Roller Series in 2025 made history just by finishing Event #1.
For the first time, a woman lifted a trophy at Triton Poker. Canadian representative Xuan Liu took all the chips at the WPT Global Slam, cashing in at $860,000.
The most interesting thing is that Xuan had never played in this series before, and she is also an ambassador for WPT Global (whose contract expires in just one week), the room that sponsors this tournament.
In total, the event raised 99 buy-ins of $25,000. Four players from Canada, including two women, qualified for the final table. In addition to Liu, Kristen Foxen (five WSOP gold bracelets and several Global Poker Player of the Year Awards) was in the running.
At the end, Xuan Liu had this to say:
"For me, this is the most important achievement of my career. I'm not sure if I can top it. Interestingly, in the heads-up, I didn't feel much pressure because I had fewer chips and had one of the best players in the world in front of me."
Likewise, Liu showed humility when explaining how she managed to win in such a complex field:
"Well, let's see: I won a triple all-in at the start of the tournament. Then I won more. At the final table, I fought my way up the paytable, and in the end, I won another all-in for $300,000! That's the beautiful thing about poker—sometimes anyone can win."
This tournament marked the end of Xuan's participation in the series, as she decided not to play any more cash games or tournaments and returned to Toronto to rest.
Final Day
Day three of the WPT Global Slam began with the top five players. Daniel Dvoress had the largest stack and continued to add chips, eliminating German Thomas Fuchs in fifth place with 77 vs. KJ.
Xuan then got into the action, knocking out Kristen Foxen in an all-in with KJ vs. K8s.
Dvoress took the tournament to heads-up play. Her T7 of clubs turned into a flush that beat David Peter's top pair.
Daniel started heads-up play with 61BB in chips, while Liu had only 16BB.
However, Xuan turned the situation around in his favor with a preflop all-in with 55 vs. AQ. The rest of the chips changed hands in 76 vs. T3, when the seven fell on the flop.
Who is Xuan Liu?
Xuan Liu was born in China, but has lived most of her life in Canada. Her poker journey began at the University of Waterloo, where she studied political science and played extensively online poker.
She has a YouTube channel and has been a long-time WPT Global ambassador, although she announced that her contract will end in about two weeks.
Liu has earned more than $3 million on the live tournament circuit. Before Triton, her best cash was $600,000 in 2012 when she finished fourth in the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Main Event.
Not long ago, Xuan set herself a rather unusual challenge: to play poker from every province in Canada. The challenge ended up being a success.
Last year, Xuan Liu won big in private cash games. He also participated in streams from Hustler Casino and The Lodge. In fact, viewers voted one of his hands from the latter as the winner of a Global Poker Awards.
