Winning Poker Network: Graphics Based Security Initiative
Two months after being recruited by Americas Cardroom as a Security Consultant, Randy "Nanonoko" Lew announced the first result of his journey against bots: a new pixelation technology that, according to him, will make the site safer.
New anti-bot technology by Americas Cardroom
"It is going to be very hard for them to continue." With this sentence, Randy "Nanonoko" Lew Americas Cardroom's security consultant announced the latest bot & RTA fighting technology implemented on the network.
Nanonoko explained in a short video that graphics were modified whenever the site released a software upgrade; usually, players don't notice, but bots definitely did. As a result, bots stopped working until they adapted to the new graphics.
Now the pixelation changes whenever a player sit-downs at a table, which means that bot software that works by understanding the graphics is now useless.
Chris Moneymaker, now acting as a room ambassador, stated that he was really excited for the future; however, the community wasn't that confident as the first comments questioned the improvement, most likely because such changes are unnoticeable by players (pixelation is not a concept explained in poker schools).
Automation will stop working immediately: Nanonoko
In a short interview with Jon Pill, Nanonoko gave more details about the new anti-bot measures implemented by WPN and said that it was "groundbreaking technology."
"After being briefed on how it works, I really just don't see how bot-software will be able to counter this update."
Randy said that honest players had nothing to worry about and that besides introducing new anti-bot software, Winning Poker Network also updated the captcha system, which will "hide" some information to bot developers who want to adapt their platforms.
Are commercial bots being sold for Winning Poker Network skins?
We reviewed the most popular commercial poker bots, and as of January 2021, Winning Poker Network rooms (Americas Cardroom, Black Chip Poker, PokerKing) were compatible with only 40% of them. About one year ago, 100% of commercial bots were sold for WPN skins.
Hence, we can conclude that the site's efforts towards fighting bots make it more challenging to run such software.
The last time WPN reported blocked accounts was on January 12, 2021, reimbursing $72k from three Canadian-based accounts. Many poker sites have declared war on automation and RTA. Recently, PokerBros released an anti-bot feature while GGPoker keeps leading the way against any kind of unfair advantage.
